The Nolan's getting the Batman story properly written and executed on screen, made it all for me. The rest they do is one huge dessert.

Why do you enjoy/respect Nolan's films?

For me there's always something to love about every Christopher Nolan film. Even his weakest films (imo are Insomnia and The Prestige) you can watch them multiple times and enjoy them. Where or or not he's written all his scripts personally I think they're all smart.

Why do you feel The Prestige is his weakest?

As much as loved and enjoyed this film I can't help but feel underwhelmed by the final act or 'the prestige' if you like. I kow what most people are going to say 'but the whole point of the prestige is that you're not supposed to work it out, you're supposed to be fooled'. I find it conveniant that Borden had a twin. Up until this point I absolutely loved this film. It was atmospheric and I loved the the two characters played brilliantly by Bale and Jackman. Even though I think this along with Insmnia is Nolan's weakest film I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I've now seen it 3 times now.

Convenient? I really, really don't think there was anything convenient about it- in fact the whole point was that it wasn't convenient, and on a character/thematic level, yes, you're 'supposed' to be fooled, commenting on the human condition's flaw in that we trick ourselves into believing in almost anything to escape from the miserable world we all occupy for the sake of a little wonder- for something bigger, which acts in part as a metaphor for all art in general, particularly film.

OK but I don't buy the fact that Borden sends Angier on a wild goose chase to make him believe that there is some sort of a cloning machine when there actually was. IMO I think The Prestige is a flawed masterpiece.

That is the true magic of The Prestige in MY opinion. It is just "too unbelievable" to be true.

I don't think he ever thought there was a cloning machine of any kind. His machine seemed to be all show.
