Google searching NF is great, but the forum search allowed you search for specific quotes in specific threads or sections of the forum. You could also search a user's history (or your own history) much easier. Google results tend to be more vague.AlexHaas wrote:I wish I could suggest something else, but Google really is amazing at finding anything on this site, especially if you use "site:nolanfans.com" in your search query like https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... m+anything.
That's one of the reasons behind the absence of the search feature on the forums. Anything we do would be second to Google.
Was there anything particularly great about the old forum search that Google couldn't do?
NF4 Phase 1: Redesign and New Forums
The biggest reason the old forum search is popular among NF users, and rightfully so, is because of one thing: convenience. As much as I appreciate you guys' work and willingness to attempt to improve the overall experience, there are various features from the old forum that provided much more convenience and simplicity. The search feature is one of those.AlexHaas wrote:I wish I could suggest something else, but Google really is amazing at finding anything on this site, especially if you use "site:nolanfans.com" in your search query like https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... m+anything.

I'm no website guru, but couldn't you put the search feature back up, but have it linked to Google?

So I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's search function isn't working? Every time I use the search function it displays no results, even using the word "Inception" and still no results come up.darthnazgul wrote: I want to make a post about an upcoming film
But I don't know if there's already a thread, and without a search function I have to go through all the forum pages.

There seems to be a glitch or something with the way that going to unread posts on threads after clicking the title works. There have been a few times where it would take me to posts I've already seen but several pages back, even if I've already read them.
Any plans to integrate Google search right into the forums?AlexHaas wrote:I wish I could suggest something else, but Google really is amazing at finding anything on this site, especially if you use "site:nolanfans.com" in your search query like https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... m+anything.
