Paul Greengrass who directed the first 3 Bourne films and Martin Campbell (Casino Royale/Goldeneye). They have both been proven to be good directors so long as they have a good script to work with.

What Batman needs is a good writer more than a good director.
Greengrass did the 2nd and 3rd Bourne flicks, I think Doug Liman made the first. Out of everything I've read I think the best suggestion thus far is JJ Abrams or Duncan Jones but I'd be fine with never seeing another Batman film again unless Nolan decided to make another.

Del Toro would be amazing, he could combine the seriousness of Batman with his own style and can bring to life some of Batmans more eccentric villains, such as Killer Croc, Clayface, Mr. Freeze, so forth. No telling if it would turn out good, but it would be something to behold.

Recently,Christopher Nolan talked about one of Batman's fundamental strengths as a character, franchise and intellectual property is reinterpretation. From the high camp of the the 60's through to the current iteration every major Batman artist has left a indelible mark on the Batman mythology and characterization.

That applies to the movies too.

Christopher Nolan's contemporary tactile functional and grounded approach (possibly definitive for this generation) of Batman has been an unqualified success with each individual standalone film grossing in the billions of dollars plus with THE DARK KNIGHT post-theatrically becoming a pop culture cinema landmark & touchstone his approach has definitely paid off.

So in my opinion - this current generation of directors (as some previously suggested - Paul Thomas Andersen ; JJ Abrams ; Duncan Jones ; David Fincher ; Darren Arononovsky ; Nicolas Windig Refn etc) ...should not be considered at all.

Why ?

Because before BATMAN Christopher Nolan was an astonishingly high quality dramatic director with only three credited films to his name - Following (no budget high concept non linear film noir ; London ; Jeremy Theobald) / MEMENTO ( high concept non-linear crime story ; USA + UK) & INSOMNIA (pre-existing film remake ; major stars ; studio ; Warner Bros (1) & Alcon Entertainment)...and if we can find a person with the same common strengths we might have a decent BATMAN 2.0.

For these aforementioned reasons I suggest Rian Johnson.

He fits the suggested criteria and has a extremely individual directorial style (and regular music / cinematographic / editorial / tech production collaborators ala Nolan),he is low risk and has not yet made a studio picture.

Plus,he actually has something to say and has only directed one IP that is not self originated - an episode of Breaking Bad.

/ end rant opinion.

Am I the only one to feel the next Batman will be a direct sequel to Rises
-No Bruce Wayne, his journey his clearly over (no Nolan also, I hope for Fincher, Del Toro or Johnson)
-JGL as Batman
-Oldman as Gordon (he's still commissionner)
-Some new villains (Ex: Penguin, Mr. Freeze)

Someone suggested Nicolas Winding Refn. That would be cool.
Refn also has balls.

How about they just never make a Batman film ever again?

I like that idea.
