Horror and Western Projects that Nolan has in development

Speculation and discussion about Christopher Nolan's possible and confirmed future projects.

A while a go I read an interview with one of the crew of The Dark Knight (Either Emma Thomas or Charles Roven) and they said that Christopher Nolan was writing a horror, western and a sci-fi during his break after The Dark Knight.
It was a legit website and quotes were used from the crew, I think it was The Dark Knight DVD premiere release, but I can’t find the link.
Does anyone have any more info on this?

Is this true? Very interesting. Looks like he really want to be like his favorite director Kubric, who also directed films in nearly all genre :D

Yeah gods honest truth but I can't find it now. Maybe Warner Bros. removed the story from websites like they did with Latino Review's Dark Knight script.
Because Latino Review had the script to the Dark Knight 6-8 months before it came out. They mentioned the main parts of the films like Reese and the fake Batman's, which were all correct.
It was only a day later it was removed and they never did the review for The Dark Knight script. So Warner Bros must have threatened them with legal action.

I'd vaguely heard that he wanted to make a western film, but I didn't know that he was planning a horror project as well.

"Thomas told me Nolan is actually interested in putting together a western, but the stars haven’t aligned for that yet."

I really hope he makes a western, his style is perfect for the moral conflict and characters that westerns usually encapsulate. It's also one of my favorite genres and one that hasn't really gotten much attention in the past few years.

"She mentioned that Nolan is keen to do a horror film, something tangible and perhaps cerebral, more akin to “Jaws” than something supernatural."

I think Nolan can make a brilliant horror film, a very down to earth one as well. Something psychological instead of the torture porn and shock-value horror which seems to be dominant nowadays. God knows the genre needs some reinvigoration.

What I also found most interesting was about his cancelled Mr. Hughes film.

"We chatted briefly about Nolan’s aborted Howard Hughes screenplay but she is hopeful they can revisit the project in the future, despite the success of Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator” in 2004, which played a role in derailing Nolan’s effort."

It's good to see that he may take it up again some day.

Yea, I would like to see Nolan do a Western and a Horror as well. Horror is my least favorite genre since the majority of films are awful but if Nolan did one...AWESOME.

Emma Thomas only really says he is interested in doing these type of films.
The beard part made me giggle a bit. I saw Nolan with a beard in a picture once, I can see what she means. :P

I would be very excited for a western. I haven't until recent years been a fan of the genre, but with 3:10 to Yuma and that one with ED Harris and Viggo Mortensen the genre is being revived. Nolan could do great things with the genre to further invigorate it.

I am not a fan of what most consider horror today, but I do like the psychological thrillers of horror's past. I am excited for both projects.

While western films continue to be made, I don't believe the genre has been going through much of a revival in the past few years. Movies such as 3:10 to Yuma and Appaloosa didn't really hit many people's radars despite being critically acclaimed. The biggest recent western is more of a pseudo-western and that was No Country for Old Men. I believe the genre started to die down after Unforgiven, but Nolan could definitely reinvigorate the genre.
