personely I prefer to see his take on howard hughes.
it will be his first non-action motivated feature.

It hasn't been that long since Nolan said the Hughes project is temporarily shelved. So it's definitely not his next project. Maybe 3-4 movies down the line.

And there is already a Bond movie in the making. That means that the next Bond film is 4-5 years away at least. Since Bond 28 is Craig's last, it might take even longer before they find a new actor to play Bond. There was a four year gap between Die Another Day and Casino Royale. So Bond 29 could easily be in 2024 or even 2025.

That's a good thing though, because it means that Nolan could make another film for release in 2020 or even 2021 (please god dont make it take that long), and still be attached for a Bond soft reboot, and possibly have a say in who gets the lead. Hell, he could even make two films before Bond if he want to.

My bet is on a more conventional (as conventional as a Nolan film gets) action movie. Original of course.

I don't think Howard Hughes will be his next project either, unfortunately. It has been 14 years since The Aviator released though. The fact that he's still reluctant to revisit the story after that long is crazy, especially since The Aviator wasn't a particularly memorable movie (at least that's how I feel about it) and didn't really capture mass appeal or anything - certainly not in terms of Scorsese movies. Then there's the fact that The Prestige, which some still consider Nolan's best movie, released right alongside The Illusionist. So why wasn't that an issue then? I think Nolan is exercising a little Hughes-esque paranoia about the whole thing.

Here's what Nolan told The Daily Beast in 2014:
I think it’s the best script I’ve ever written, and I had a really wonderful experience writing it. Yeah, it was a frustrating experience that the other movie got going. Will I revisit it? I have no idea. I really don’t think about what I’m going to do next until I’m completely finished, and for the next couple of weeks I’m still all about Interstellar. I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out, but I wrote it a long time ago.
Then at a BAFTA event last year:
Howard Hughes is a fascinating character. A lot of what I put into the script, which I do intend to make one day, I put into Bruce Wayne. There’s been many films that have addressed different aspects of his life but not the whole thing.
The fact that he still considers it his best script even as recent as Interstellar is simply amazing.

I have absolutely no inside information but I'm thinking WB gives Chis the green light on his Howard Hughes project. What Napoleon was to Kubrick, Hughes seems to be to Chris Nolan.

Hope not. Kubrick never made this movie...

Anyone else not particularly interested in Nolan taking on Bond? It would be a bit reductive to me. I think some years would have to pass from the Craig iteration imho. He’d want to build it up from scratch I’m sure.

However I think the next film announced will be an IP of some stripe. He might wanna try for Dark Knight numbers again at the box office, that would in turn finance even more stuff like Dunkirk/Interstellar. Having another huge hit would give him even more free reign in project choice. That Howard Hughes film may come to pass.

I don't think Bond really makes sense at this point. Like, ever. And I personally wouldn't be interested in it. I'm sure it would be a great movie, as all of Nolan's films are.

But he's already done his mission/espionage/spy movie with Inception.
He practically used Lucius Fox as Bruce Wayne's "Q" in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

It feels like Nolan would just be taking elements of movies he's already made and mushing them together into a 007 film. It just seems too obvious and on-the-nose. Nolan's not a predictable guy.

Having said that, would I see a Nolan 007 movie? Hell yeah. I would just be kind of bummed if this was the next project, after all this waiting.

I definitely want something that's more of a mind-bender / high-concept / thinking-man's film.
I want more Memento, Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, and less Following, Insomnia, Dunkirk, Batman.

And to be clear - I don't dislike those latter ones, but Nolan's at his best when he's blowing your mind and giving you a script/concept you've never seen before.
