I said Elswit. Hes a big DP and has experience with IMAX and hes a damn good DP.

I don't think Nolan is going to pick somebody who already has a big reputation. He'll probably pick somebody fairly unknown with unrecognized talent.

Who ought to be Nolan's next cinematographer?

There are a lot of assumptions being made about nolans next dp, at the the end of the day he will obviously go for someone of similar belief in film rather than digital. I'm sure with the nature of artists, being flexible is an obvious attribute and apart from a few names in the whole film vs digital debate there are some who despite what is reported see the benefits of both and can manoeuvre between the formats as i do not believe it's as black and white as people are suggesting. It's a matter of technique old or new, all cinematographer's, the very best being mentioned are schooled in film and some are embracing digital which is just a sign of the times. How much they have well and truly moved away from film altogether is a question for the individual cinematographer quite frankly , unless directly quoted a lot of publications are speaking on there behalf and assuming like the rest of us that one cinematographer or another has consigned film to the scrap heap. At the end of the day one of the most important reasons for nolans success is his great storytelling ability and wally has been fantastic in translating that, that ability remains and so does the ability of a lot of other great cinematographers. If tarantino can find a new editor for his films (which have been so intrinsic to his filmography R.I.P. sally menke!) then i'm sure nolan can find a new dp to carry on his vision also.

Hoyte van Hoytema, DP of Tinker, Tailor Soldier, Spy.

Or Newton Thomas Sigel, DP of Drive. Oh my Lord, that makes me weep at the idea.
