This, precisely. Inception is not so much smart as it is brilliantly layered, twisted and complex. However, Memento and the Prestige play the greatest mind games, reveal the greatest twists, and are overall the most mentally challenging films of Nolan's filmography.

It's undoubtedly either Memento or The Prestige. Of those 2 I like The Prestige better but I would probably give the edge slightly to Memento for smartest anyway. I'm not just going to pick one, though, because I can't say for certain. Prestige is pretty fucking genius.
