I first saw Federer play in the 2001 Wimbledon quarterfinals against Pete Sampras when he was just 19.
I was a Sampras fan at the time, but while watching that match I realised there was something really special about that young Swiss dude. And he certainly wasn't handsome at that time.
Yeah, he looked like shit at the time, but I still supported him every match he played because he could do things with a tennis ball that nobody else could, and even now nobody else can.
It was only much later [sometime in 2005, IIRC] that he started styling himself up and cut his hair short. Hell, even now, there are lots of people who make fun of his nose and say he is ugly and looks like Quentin Tarantino.
So I don't like him because I think he looks good, I like him because he has the ability to bedazzle us with his game. As David Foster Wallace put it, watching Roger Federer play can be a religious experience. He plays the game the way we all wish we could. And as he grows older, those moments of effortless domination have become rarer, but that just makes me treasure those glorious matches even more.
Let me make it clear to you if you didn't understand what I said so far - all girls are not shallow. And there are just as many shallow girls as there are shallow boys.
