Well done, I'm guessing it's not to be taken lightly :) Here when my religious friend told her parents she's stopping (we have a special phrase for it here) they stopped talking to her.

1) Good job fox! I'm proud of ya
2) My mom's watching one of those "I CAN TALK TO DA DED FER U!" shows and actually believes it all. And believes all of it

Moral relativism is quite the concept. Compare their culture's reaction with ours towards the Joe Paterno scandal

My biggest problem with Religulous, aside from Bill Maher being smarmy as hell, is that line of bullshit Maher gives people at the Bible theme park about Jesus being a Jewish version of Horus, Dionysus, Krishna, etc. He basically stole all that stuff from this really terrible documentary called Zeitgeist, and didn't research any of it--if he had, he would have discovered that none of that stuff is true.

A compelling argument can be made that the gospel accounts are heavily mythologized, similar to how most of the stories about the ancient philosophers were mythologized (like Buddha and Diogenes of Sinope), but the theory that Jesus was a straight up myth makes absolutely no sense. Both believers and non-believers take Jesus out of his historical context and forget that he was one of the many people back then who were claimants to the Jewish Messiah throne, and if he were just an invention of Paul, Peter and the other guys, why not just have him fill out all the prophecies, instead of dying on a cross (which the messiah wasn't supposed to do), rising again (wasn't supposed to do that, either) or being born in Nazareth (there's not a lot of evidence that the nativity account happened the way it does in The Gospel Of Luke)?

The fact that Jesus didn't meet all the requirements, and that Matthew and Luke had to change details of his birth, adds credibility to the idea that the dude existed.

Indeed, people who promote these theories, like Acharya S, seem to just make it up as they go along. Really can't be taken seriously. The whole Christ is just a fabricated myth idea just doesn't holds water. They would be able to make a better case, if they do in fact have one, by parting from premise that Christ actually existed. Which is the most reasonable position to hold for both Christians and non-Christians alike.

You guys are automatically dismissing the possibility of Jesus being a variation of other Gods and then you're attacking someone who points that out
