Australian Director claiming Nolan fame.

Let me start by saying this is my first post in the forums. I'm not here to make trouble, I'm just concerned about an issue that's been raised here in Australia that I have unfortunately had first-hand experience with.

There is a gentleman in Canberra, Australia by the name of Jonathan Nolan who has been using the similarity of his name to the Nolan brothers to make connections and boost his own career. He has been caught out on one occasion for what is best described as an international scam, one that people might have heard of called Starwalker. However, he has had many other flights of fancy, some real some not.

I must admit, this particular discussion is posted partly in bitterness, as I was a prop-maker for his movie Sweet Cyanide which bombed to an unbelievable degree in 2007. And like most - if not all - people associated with that movie, I was not paid (and to me, $1,000 is pretty important). However, after a few months of hounding him for payment (to no avail) I gave up. It was only recently after my partner watched Dark Knight with me that she took to the computer to look up the two Nolans and came across my unfortunate past. It was during the time that followed that she discovered this quote about the Canberran director:
Two of Nolan's past alleged "feature films" were "Ape" and "Hellflower", both of which, of course, don't exist.

On Nolan's own "Hottest On TV" website, Rachael Robbins, scream queen and Playboy Playmate, is listed as being involved with both these projects:

http://www.hottestontv.com.au/index.php ... r=b&anch=3

So, I sent Ms Robbins an email asking about her involvement. While I fully expected her to deny any knowledge at all of Nolan and his "films", her reply still wasn't a complete surprise:

"Hi Walter, that entire "film company" was a scam. They wasted oodles of my time and were absolutely full of s#*t. He did claim to be the johnathan Nolan, brother of Christopher. But it was all a slew of lies. I'm not even sure what he was playing at, and what he got out of it. But it's a total scam.

Another quote from the site:
But it was when he said he was "cousins with Christopher Nolan but they had a fallout so they don't talk anymore" that I started to catch onto who this guy really was.
Now, I work in a cinema, and am a claymation animator/photographer at heart and I have a Degree with honours behind my name. So I understand the time and effort that goes into a piece of work, and realise that what goes into a work as big as Inception or Memento is massive. I also understand that if someone goes to all that effort, someone else has no right to waltz in and steal the glory.

I'm not entirely sure what the ramifications will be for me writing this (being board banned is less of a concern to me than being targeted with one of the Defamation Lawsuits Mr. Nolan has going against people who say nasty things about him on the internet) but I feel that the Nolan brothers should know that there is someone in Australia who is using the similarity of his name to theirs, both here in Australia and overseas.

I'll finish by saying that Memento Inception and Dark Knight are three of my favourite movies, and I can't wait for what the Nolan's will bring to us next. Also, my partner hopes Hans Zimmer will partner-up for future productions, as she says the amazing visuals and dialogue of Dark Knight were amplified by his score. [Fanboy rant over]

Be awesome, rock on, and stay groovy.

Beige.

Since you didn't bash the Australian filmmaker, and merely notified people of his past, I don't think this could be considered Defamation of Character. You also have no reason to be banned, it's not like you came on here and told everyone that Christopher Nolan himself is a fraud and you had some wild conspiracy theory.

That dude really sounds like an asshole. If you have the time I suggest that you write Warner Brothers about this. Im almost certain that they will take this very seriously. And they have the power to stop this like no other.

I will attempt to get actual quotes from people hearing him state any relationship with the Nolans before I go to Warner Brothers, but I think that's a good idea. If anything it might bring him down a peg. I just have to make sure the information is no further than second-hand. If you're gonna do something, do it well.. and legally airtight if you're going up against a lawyer (well... he was apparently disbarred for serious misconduct).
