I'll start:

Humans have greatly overstayed their welcome. We do more harm than good, and most of the "good" we do is self-serving. Our obsession with self-preservation and the perpetuation of our society has outgrown our connectedness with the natural world. The only solution, as I see it, is collective self-destruction.

The universe is beautiful. Humanity is one of it's most precious creations.

I agree. I also agree with the first post. Yet, I don't believe it's so black and white.

Humanity is both beautiful and hideous. I typically lean towards hideous in this regard but I can't ignore how fascinating and incredible it is. I am somewhat disappointed with what's happening in the world, particularly the environment- but the planet's capacity for change and adjustment is incredible. In the human context it is an issue which really concerns me. Outside of it, not so much. If humanity disappears, it disappears. It had a grand old time at least. But in the end, none of this matters at all in the slightest.

I basically agree with Nolan's stance on humanity as seen through his films and the upcoming one.

Horrible as shit most of the time but there are good people worth fighting for.

Humanity is both beautiful and hideous.
Obviously they are both because the universe holds control of both light and darkness, life and death, etc.

As for humanity being more hideous... that's absurd. Even statistically speaking that's absurd. You have to really be a version of Rust Cohle to believe in such things. And we all know what the general consensus is regarding him. Not to mention we all know how the show ends. It's great to be Rust Cohle in certain matters but not in regards to humanity.

Except I'm pretty sure that's not Nolan's stance on humanity.

Tarkovsky had horrible images regarding humanity. Yet his movies are one of the most positive cinematic journeys ever made and he loved people, he loved life, he loved the misery of it as well.
