This is the worst air disaster for The Netherlands since Tenerif. 154 Dutch citizens were killed today. No one I know, but it still makes me sad.

It's like Russia is trying to start a new Cold War.

Well, granted, you could technically argue the Cold War never ended and just got colder, but still.

100 of the 298 passengers were AIDS researchers going to Melbourne for the AIDS 2014 conference. Among them were staff from WHO, UNAIDS and IAS (International AIDS Society), including the legendary Joep Lange. This is an irreplaceable loss to the scientific community.

RIP.

Do you really have to be sarcastic in a thread like this?
It's just a way of expressing my extreme disappointment with the human race.
we already know you're a misanthrope

Yep. Pretty much confirmed it's been shot down by russian separatists.

Putin claims this accident is a signal that Ukraine must solve it's problems fast. (The balls on this guy...)

Now people are claiming that if Western powers would have been more firm in the Crimea issue... maybe this would have never happened.

The thing is someone needs to do something now and stop playing this "avoid a conflict at all costs" game. Because this game is not harming Russia. Just cut off Russia and let it rot for 3 years.

They'll go bankrupt and either go to war or come begging.

Assigning blame to one side is the worst thing you can do in a situation like this, it'll just make matters worse with different groups using it as pretext for their political agenda. Unfortunately, you can already see the psychological theatre take form in the media. Everyone has to accept responsibility. Ukraine for continuing to war with separitists, Russia and America for continuing to create tension via propaganda, the international airspace control for allowing flights to follow that route , etc. hopefully the tragedy is a catalyst for resolution.

Not if UE contracts US.

Let them sell it to Kazakhstan. In 3 years they will beg Europe to get cheap gas and oil from them.
