Creflo Dollar: Atlanta Megachurch Pastor Arrested for Battery

Megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar is expected to preach on Sunday, in spite of a physical fight with his daughter that led to his arrest, his attorney said.
Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at Dollar's Atlanta home around 1 a.m. Friday after they received a domestic violence call from the pastor's 15-year-old daughter, authorities said.
The fight over whether the daughter could attend a party turned physical, authorities said.
A witness told deputies Dollar, 50, grabbed his daughter by her throat and choked her, causing a scratch on her neck, ABC News' Atlanta affiliate WSB reported.
Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released Friday morning.
In a statement issued through his attorney to the Associated Press, Dollar said he would never physically harm his children.
"The facts in this case will be handled privately to further protect my children. My family thanks you for your prayers and continued support," he said.
Dollar and his wife, Taffi, have five children.
The pastor founded his ministry in 1986. It grew from a modest first service in front of eight people to having thousands of followers in satellite churches around the country.
Dollar is known for his flashy lifestyle and for preaching a gospel of prosperity to his congregants.
"Do you know why God wants you to prosper? He has a plan for your prosperity and it involves more than just having a big house and nice cars. God's design for prosperity is so you can be a blessing to others," it says on Dollar's website.

Ok. Why do we need these articles? I mean what's so special about them? A story like this comes every once in a while... I mean... this is just pointless.

It would be the same as if I would link any great humanitarian activity in which the church is involved. :eh:

This article corresponds to the title of the thread because its an immoral and nonsensical act done by a clergymen motivated by his faith. Stories like this don't come every once in a while although I'll give it to you that they're usually much worse. Houses of worship pay no taxes and they make their money by telling a bunch of made up stories and presenting them as fact. Only a fraction of that money is used for social work.

I wholeheartedly agree with the topic name. Religion is a mindprison/brainwashing tool.

Religion's tricky. I'm a Catholic-raised atheist of Jewish descent, so with that view (mix of religions  ), I tend to stay out of it normally. My mother and maternal grandparents are Christians, but Mum's more a Easter-and-Christmas goer whereas my grandparents go every Sunday (and religious holidays).

They're fine with my lack of beliefs, and I'm fine with theirs. It's the imposition that becomes a problem.

I knew a guy who became a born-again Christian. He was cool when I knew him, but recently he's just become so, so fundamentalist, demanding that his friends "REPENT!!!!!" in addition to saying the government is planning a nuclear strike on the Olympic Stadium and they're going to blame it on Iran. Things like that. I finally had enough and ended up in a debate with him and two others who were arguing the same sad I was, and the arguments he had for ours...not only were they poorly executed, they were expressed with the maturity of a twelve-year old. I told him it was his execution of his beliefs (i.e. forcing them on everyone) that gave Christians and Christianity a bad name, but he didn't listen. He was so wrapped up in pushing his crap on everyone that he wouldn't give any leeway to the opinions and arguments of others.

When we started turning his arguments on their heads with quotes directly from his beloved Bible, he denounced us all as "children of Satan" and ran away from the debate. I get the feeling we'd won, but it was just...pathetic.

tl;dr - IMO not all Christians are out to brainwash you and the ones that do give the rest a bad name.

So the thread for "religious discussions" is located under a topic titled "Religion: A Brainwashing Tool". It doesn't get much funnier than this.
