Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) has landed the title role in Hannibal, the Peacock’s contemporary series take on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel.
The project, written and exec-produced by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and slated to debut at midseason, centers on the budding relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.
Mikkelsen just picked up the Best Actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt. He was recently cast as the lead villain in Marvel’s upcoming Thor sequel.

This would be good on Showtime or HBO. On NBC it's just going to be fucking dumb.

They can get away with a lot these days, and still make a compelling show. Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead.

I just watched the first half of Hannibal last night for the first time in ages. I know this is an uncontroversial opinion, but Hannibal and Red Dragon fall so short of Silence of the Lambs.

Why can't they come up with better ideas for shows than recycle storylines that don't need any recycling.

Why.

Actually, Hannibal is, imo, the best of the bunch; I prefer Julianne Moore as Clarice and the Florence setting just keeps getting better with each viewing. Not to mention Hopkins and Oldman. Underrated as it gets. As for this series... Don't really care, they lost me at prequel.

I've only seen The Silence of the Lambs, so I don't really have a strong opinion on this. Mads Mikkelson is a solid choice for Lector, but I don't see anything else exciting about this.
