Lajto is definitely supervillain in my book. Hate the guy sooo much. Also, cue: 'potato chips epic song'.

Well, let's just say...
no traditional villain. A lot of the shit in Death Note runs right at the edge of morality. Characters are in the wrong... but there's a difference between being in the wrong and being a villain. They function in a grey area. Which is why I have a hard time pointing out real villains in Game of Thrones or Lost in that sense. A villain is a villain. Someone that is deliberately criminal and evil and enjoys it. Someone that consciously harms others. Death Note functions more in the grey area I'm talking about. With a few exceptions.

That's exactly what Light Yagami does RIFA. He deliberately hurts others, and I'm not only talking about him killing criminals, he killed L and his taskforce and the end of the manga's first half and enjoyed, he showed a gigantic smile on his face when L died. And he was thinking about killing people for being lazy. The grey area in Light's morality disappears at the end of his second episode, when he kills Lind L. Taylor (who he thought was L) because his smug ass couldn't handle an insult.

Maybe I don't remember the anime itself properly. I mostly remember the 2-part movies as they stuck with more than anything else.

Light is an asshole who thinks he's god. Nothing justifiable about any of his actions and this seems to go out of its way to provide a justification or rationalization for his actions. Nope, nope, nope. Killing criminals is still murder, the reasons do not matter in the slightest and Light is a serial killer in the manga and the anime. Nothing heroic or debatable about that.

Well one thing that they are doing right is that they are skipping the whole Near and Mello nonsense. Unless they are reserving that for a sequel or something.£

Well yeah I guess villain was the wrong word, even though I kinda thought he was. The thing that Dafoe plays.
