Well Nicole's performance in The Others is far more complex than Cate's in Elizabeth. I think Notes on a Scandal would have been a better choice but it seems Cate is popular on this site.

I can't say Kidman in The Others wasn't as good or maybe even better than Blanchett in Elizabeth so maybe I really didn't deserve to win, but overall Blanchett is a better actress, more charismatic and more versatile imo.

On the other hand Foster deserved to win against Pitt which she isn't going to apparently.

I don't think that matters that much. I already needed Gladiator, The Insider and A beautiful Mind to defeat Winslet, Gosling and Depp. Blanchett has better performances left.
