I didn't forget him, I just have no clue who Sam Shepard is.

Dafoe, playing the role of John Petty, joins the previously announced cast that includes Oscar-winner Christian Bale (The Fighter), Oscar-nominated Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Oscar-nominated Sam Shepard (The Right Stuff), Oscar-nominated Woody Harrelson (The Messenger) and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland).
The film, which started shooting on April 13th on location in Braddock, Pennsylvania, is both written and directed by Cooper (Crazy Heart).
Described as a gripping and gritty dramatic thriller about fate, circumstance, and justice. Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Affleck) live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast - a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
Dafoe can currently be seen in the The Hunter and John Carter and will soon be seen opposite Anton Yelchin in Odd Thomas directed by Stephen Sommers, as well as opposite Michelle Monaghan and Stephen Dorff in Tomorrow You're Gone, directed by David Jacobson.
Producing are Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar) and Jennifer Killoran (The Ides of March) alongside Scott Free’s Ridley Scott (The Grey), Tony Scott (Man on Fire) and Michael Costigan (American Gangster) as well as Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter).

* Christian Bale snuck into Koppel last Saturday to shoot a scene at the IPSCO Koppel Tubulars mill for the gritty drama "Out of the Furnace."
To capture the proper realism, Director Scott Cooper assigned some blue-collar work to the Oscar-winning "Batman" actor.
"He was taking the temperature of liquid steel and they had him operating the equipment," mill employee Robert Betters said.
The film crew's 11-hour day included shooting scenes of Bale hanging out in a breakroom and walking outside the mill by a big dump truck.
@Ethan_Anderton: Really looking forward to visiting the set of CRAZY HEART director Scott Cooper's new film OUT OF THE FURNACE with Christian Bale on Monday!
@jenyamato: So. Pittsburgh-bound. Christian Bale awaits. Will try to sneak in Newsies questions. Taking local highlight (ok, karaoke) suggestions...
@elguapo1: Can't sleep. Early flight to Pittsburgh for a set visit for some Christian Bale movie. Life hates me.
Gonna ask Christian Bale which of the Fast & Furious movies is his favorite.
If anyone on this set visit asks Bale a Dark Knight question, I'm beating the *beep* out of them.
@EDouglasWW: I'm off to Pittsburgh for rougly 24 hours for a set visit...that's all I'm saying. (But yes, it is Dark Knight reshoots.... no, not really)
@DrClawMD: Off to the burgh to hang out with Christian Bale and "Crazy Heart" director, Scott Cooper. No big whoop. #OutoftheFurnace #IntotheBurgh
@DrClawMD: @woycheck Will do! Apparently he's been working on his Pittsburghese. I'll judge him tomorrow.
