It was a great effort, but like a lot of what JGL does, it's kind of contrived and rigid. Lots of people will draw parallels to Shame, but it pales in comparison

All the reviews that came in the past few days are all positive, here are a few-

8.5/10

Gordon-Levitt dominates this film. He obviously knew it from all angles and did a great job with directing himself. His accent was so spot on, it was hard to tell who was talking at first. That being said, his supporting cast was also just as amazing. I never could have imagined finding Scarlett Johansson anything but gorgeous, but when she gets going with her long nails, gum-chomping, Jersey accent, she was wonderfully hate-able. It was so much fun to watch her take that risk and wildly succeed. Tony Danza and Glenne Headly were amazing together, and it was great to see the two work off each other. Julianne Moore is a fantastic crazy lady who is always adds depth to every roll she’s in. And Brie Larson, brought the laughs and the knowledge with only one line — she rocks.
Many people mentioned this is Johansson's best work in years and one of her best overall. Great to hear, I have always been a fans of hers but she really has not had anything great since working with Woody Allen.

Nice! Anything that includes JGL is a must see in my books. I'm glad that the film is being received well so far, hopefully it continues.

What a great directorial debut for @hitRECordJoe. DON JON'S ADDICTION had flares of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and was thoroughly entertaining.

Just seen our last film of the fest: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon's Addiction, a fantastically funny directorial debut... #Sundance2013

I'm surprised at the amount of positive reviews I've read! Not that I thought it would do bad, I just thought they'd tear it apart with the subject matter and the fact it's JGL's first directing gig.

I'm so glad though, I knew he'd do good! I can't wait to finally see it! :-D
