Um ... it was a well-made film, but ...

You watched a good film by the best director of his generation (along with the obvious).
He's done better but Magnolia is a lovely film.

Woody marathon? I really wish Bradley was in his next film. I really wanted to see that.

Best Kubrick film by FAR, and the the best horror ever made.

Yeah, that one was making nervous. It either would have been a steaming pile of crap or amazing on an individual performance level. I'm not sure if Bradley would have meshed with Woody, but if he did he would have knocked it out of the park. Woodys scripts always lean on nervous witty awkwardness, I think Cooper is to confident and out-going to mesh in a Woody film, but it would have been interesting.

Short answer: He would have sucked.

This is true but not all of his characters are like this. He always has a few "Woody Allen" characters in all his movies but not all of them are... like Marion in MIP for example or Michael Sheen. If Bradley was playing a Woody character I think he could of pulled it off. I thought Rebecca Hall was somewhat was a Woody surrogate and I would of never expected that so..

To put it on short... I gave this an 8.6. Here's my take.

A movie with substance. A movie about various real-life stories, that address the truths, and even comes with a proper ending for all. However, when you look at the big picture you can't find the meaning behind all this. You can't find it because it's not there or because it is there but it's so "well" hidden under all those narrative layers that you won't even bother searching for it because you'll probably get headaches. I think the biggest flaw in Magnolia is that it feels like a "representation" without a purpose. It feels pointless and confusing in the end because of the number of reasons I mentioned. However, it's still one of the great movies. Everything in it smells and feels like quality.
