Haven't seen this one in about a decade, still have it on original VHS.

Anyway, while I remembered many scenes I forgot the main plot. So this was as enjoyable as before. I always saw this movie as the one that 'describes' LA perfectly. Or at least the way I felt there.
The cast is absolutely phenomenal. While Russell Crowe is the only one that stuck to my mind all these years (mainly cos I love his character), the rest were all so impressive. Definitely one of my fave 90s films.

I'm not much with ratings but I'd give it 8.8/10.

One of the most perfect kick ass movies ever made.

Bound (1996) - 9.3/ 10 - The first movie the Wachowski's ever made. It's pretty damn badass. It's the best thing they ever made besides the Original Matrix, and it comes close to that IMO. It's also very reminiscent of the first Matrix, in terms of visual style and set design. (Or Matrix is very reminiscent to this, since it came first)

The acting is eehh except for Joe Pantoliano and the best acting comes from Christopher Meloni. Besides that, one of the lead females is literally a female Keanu Reeves, but it doesn't screw up the movie in any way. It's a damn good kick ass Neo Noir Crime Thriller that can be funny as hell at times. It's very original, and if you haven't seen it I definitely recommend it. Seeing this makes me regret ever saying the Wachowski's are overrated.

Dark Shadows: 6.5/10

Definatley not as bad as what people are making it out to be. The film does have it's faults, but I was still entertained enough to admire everything that was going on. It felt forced at times because of there was too much going on. But it's just good dumb fun at the cinemas, nothing more, nothing less. And it doesn't add to the myth that Burton has lost it.

The Tree of Life: 7.5/10

You can't deny that this film is pretentious, but it leaves you with a feeling that films don't normally give you. It's not a hard film to follow, but you still try to comprehend the atmosphere and everything that is going on. Some shots are really wasted on leaves and trees that mean nothing to the viewer, but what makes the film is the visuals, cinematography, music and feeling afterwards. Definately not a film for everyone.

The Grey- A alright survival movie, if you don't take the inaccuracies of a wolf seriously. I hated and loved the ending with a passion,
at least they showed that he killed the wolf after the credits, but I'm guessing he was going to die no matter what anyways...? The ending was very powerful, the music was incredible and then it ends.

This is one of those films that has almost no re-watchability because of the ending. Liam was good though and was pretty incredible at the very end.

Casino Royale- 8.7/10- Great movie and great entertainment but not without flaws. The middle of the movie is clearly the strongest. Craig is an excellent James Bond and is able to convey a deep pool of emotion via his eyes only while revealing the complexity of the character which is perfect for this role. There is no need for people to ask for a new Bond.

They mean something and on top of that... it's art. This is not a hollywoodian movie at all so don't judge it like one. Sometimes... shots that make no sense could be beautiful on screen... It's like a painting that you watch and you can't find a sense in it but you still enjoy it. The same with TTOL. It's not a movie for everyone. Some people can find meaning in everything there because it actually is... while others won't finding meaning in most things because it doesn't really connect with them personally. But I'm tired of talking about this film so I'll let it at that.

People praise "God Bless America" but trash "The Tree of Life"... this is what cinema has become for the moviegoers...

This is exactly the way I felt when I first watched the film (The Tree of Life). When I went to the cinema to watch it, I had no clue what to expect - I never even heard of Terrence Malick to be entirely honest - and personally I didn't like it. But I knew that maybe I didn't have the right frame of mind to gain meaning from it, and I knew that I wanted to watch it again. I've had the film on my PC for a while now, and I find myself from time-to-time watching certain parts and sequences from the film and thinking that actually, it is really meaningful in terms of certain messages that the film tries to delivers. Plus I'm in an entirely different frame of mind than I was when I first watched it, so that's probably why i've been able to find meaning from the film now. Although I still understand that the film definitely is not for everyone, not even the casual movie-goer, but i'd encourage people to watch it. I've become interested in Malick's previous films though and intend to watch through them all after exams are over.

Anyway that's my point of view on The Tree of Life. Last movies I watched - which I have to watch as part of case studies for one of my university exams:

Really love this movie, and I like Spike Lee's movies in general, and the issues that it raises and the way they're explored are cleverly done. Could write more about it, but i'm writing enough on the film as it is and I won't clog up the boards with my detailed essay on it lol.

Bend it Like Beckham

Not really a favourite of mine, but it's good to see the British Asian/Punjabi community represented. I do like some of the humour and it does cleverly explore issues, but I do have problems with the way the film portrays certain characters and deals with certain issues in the film, but again i'll leave that for the essay I have to write for it.
