What do you get when you combine Hugh Grant as a washed up singer and Drew Barrymore as a writer with issues? This-

8.5/10 [yeah, I love this movie ;) ] ;)

Avengers 9.75, Ran 8.25.

I don't like seeming belittling or mocking but seriously,

NextNolan gave Avengers a 9.75 I believe, and scored Ran an 8.25. The latter being a classic heralded as a masterpiece. The other is a superhero movie.

North by Northwest - 9.0

Solid and classic mystery/thriller from Hitchcock, I can totally see the appeal and the praise for this film. It is very well-made for its time in typical Hitchcockian fashion.

I saw a lot of its plot coming from miles away, but I think that has to do with the fact that I've seen more films inspired by it before actually seeing the film for the first time. That's a real shame, considering how classic this film is, but I couldn't help it.

Too bad the plot makes absolutely no sense and is completely preposterous. I love it though lol.

Yeah there were a few things I found a little odd about the story, can't remember what they were right now, but I still liked it a lot.

Well, you know how he met the blonde on the train? well, first toff, they didn't konw he'd go to the U.N. thing and the guy followed, they didn't know he'd get framed for murder, but they still somehow ended up comfortably on the train ahead of him, WITH her, with this whole plan of what to do, and he still somehow ran into her by complete and total coincidence.

But okay.

So the idea was to keep him detained and have someone watch over him, but he confessed to her he isn't this killer or this agent and in fact he wants to CALL the agent. But she goes to call this 'agent' but the whole plan they made up last minute apparently based on the coincidence of them meeting on the train is based on him not insisting to make the call himself- the only reason provided is because he was in a worker uniform, except then we see him change and stroll out into the open again, so he could have called by the movie's own ridiculous logic. Wouldn't him calling or needing to indicate he WOUDLN'T be that guy? Aside of that, they lure him out to the middle of nowhere... apparently, to kill him, which, why didn't they kill him when he was being detained on the train in some capacity? But they lure him out there to kill him.

By crashing a plane into him.

What.

The.

Fuck.

Yes, this is what sort of bugged me, the fact that the story seemed to always be one step ahead of him.

So the idea was to keep him detained and have someone watch over him, but he confessed to her he isn't this killer or this agent and in fact he wants to CALL the agent. That's a good point, I didn't catch that exactly, I think I was more invested in what was happening on screen. Maybe I should give this a lower rating.

8.5 perhaps?

Yeah that was forced just so it would lead to the tense scene between Thornhill and the crop-duster. However, I don't think the intention was to crash into him. I felt that the fact that it swooped in on him was intended to scare him. The plane apparently had guns on it, so I guess that's how they planned to kill him.
