It''s a character study film. It's like Chinatown; what the characters did was more interesting then the storyline. The ending seemed a little too obvious when starting the film; she would rethink who she is and change it.

:eh: I do not think she will change. Matt's sister convinced her again that she is better than everybody in Mercury and she does not really have problems ect. despite the final few moments.

On the topic of Matt's sister, do you think she had a crush on Mavis? The way she said that she would think about the life she had and when she asked her if she could come to the city with her, for me, that kind of implied it.

Absolutely, you could tell from her little screen time she was one of those people that just sucked up to the popular girl in HS trying to fit in. That actress did a nice job in that final scene. That is the best scene of the movie I think...

^Like your Avatar AllStar.

Such an underrated film. I went in thinking it was a comedy when in actuality Young Adult is an excellent and relevant social commentary with a brilliant and understated performance by Charlize.

I've seen Young Adult twice and settled on a 7 out of 10. Though I agree with Allstar that it's worth seeing just for the third act, that doesn't excuse how lazy most of the first half is. Theron's performance and the character of Mavis also didn't hold up quite as well on a second viewing as I had hoped, receding into caricature territory a bit too often. Young Adult's greatest flaw, though, is the plot. Theron and Collette Wolfe engage in a stirring conversation near the end that really should have manifested more in what actually transpires throughout the film. But all that said, Young Adult does have kernels of excellence that hint at a much greater film if, perhaps, the screenplay was worked over for a couple more months.

This Means War -- 73/100
Presentation: Sony Digital 4K

Aside from the chemistry between the leads, and how good everyone looked in suits, this movie doesn't have a lot going for it. It's fun, I guess. Entertaining, mostly.
