We have a thread for the best endings, so I figured we should have one for the best beginnings. Here are some I can think of at the moment.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
Superman: The Movie
Batman Begins
Blade Runner
Gladiator
The Godfather Part II
Memento
The Patriot
Insomnia
Heat

The Dark Knight has my favorite beginning of all time. I also love the first 30 minutes or so of The Fellowship of the Ring... I adore the shire.
