Local film festival in town this week. What foreign films (including documentaries) from this year besides Parasite are worth checking out? They literally show hundreds.

So I randomly thought of Penny Dreadful a few days ago. I remember never going beyond season 1 for some reason. The premise is amazing and I remember mostly loving it, but some of the stuff also fell flat for me iirc. Is it worth to try again?

Thanks, I think I'll check out the first few episodes to see how I feel about it. Tbh my memories are pretty vague at this point, I doubt I would've easily remembered the show if I didn't know they were doing a spin off of this

there's some deep cuts here that've been impossible to find before now so i'm fucking psycheeddddd

le samourai is absolutely the best place to start, it's amazing. army of shadows is also amazing. he's known for political thrillers and crime movies and those are, imo, his two best. le cercle rouge is also super famous (the red circle club in john wick is a reference to it) but I personally don't go crazy for it.

bob le flambeur also rips, PTAs hard eight is a loose remake of it. les doulos is also awesome, it's sort of a film noir take on the sting where you never quite know who's allied with whom and it's kind of a game to figure out what's going on and so on.
