Right, forgot about TGWTDT soundtrack, probably my favorite score of the year, imho better than The Social Network

Mhm. :) Although just proves how conservative and boring Oscars really are. Makes me proud of myself, for not thinking in their simple minded terms.

Calling it right now-best films of 2012 will not be nominated at all or snubbed of all the awards they deserve.

Am I the only one who thinks The Artist deserved to win? :?

You're trying to see the Oscars as something they're not; it' a majority vote of 6000 people, all with different backgrounds and tastes. OF COURSE the winner will always be the lowest common denominator. That's not really the fault of the voters but of the voting system. Ask ten people and you'll get ten different Best Pic winners. They can't handle that. It's always about the movie that polarizes the least. That's why there's no use in complaining that your personal favorite hasn't won.

94%/77% of Academy are white males around 64 years old, I'm sure they know exactly what they like: non-polarizing, mediocre, politically correct pictures. I agree, there's no use in complaining, what counts is our own opinion, those movies will survive due to our constant re-view through ages. Who will care about Hugo in 2020? But I will surely play my Blu-ray of TDKR, Prometheus, Django etc.

Which makes it a miracle that Inception got nominated although it was obvious that it didn't have any chances of winning.

I agree, but that doesn't mean they have the same tastes in movies. If I did a survey at my University for the best movie of 2012, I'd get dozens of answers and yet have all male/female white around 20 year old people. There were surely some who voted for Tree of Life or Dragon Tattoo as their favorites, but The Artist got enough points - also as the second, third etc. choice - that it succeeded.

+1. Although I'll probably care for Hugo. But for many others I don't.

Should've mentioned some other pictures, Hugo was actually pretty sweet imo. But the point remains the same. Like my friend said yesterday: we need something earth shattering like Gone with the Wind, Gladiator or LOTR, something to cheer for, instead of just chalking out names every year and cashing in some cheap money - I nailed every goddamned category except George Clooney (Dujardin was closer but I went with my gut feeling instead) and even though I said Jessica wins for Best supporting Octavia Spencer was good to go from day one, it's just so sad - to know almost everything and every year, and yet don't feel much at all.
