December release, great actors, decent story... what could cost this movie some Oscar nominations is a totally bland looking cinematography. It looks like a random based on a true story movie a'la The Best of Enemies or On the Basis of Sex, not a serious Oscar contender.

Short Term 12 is so good, so tender, lived in and real but his follow ups have looked so corny and insincere in comparison.

Sounds like it’s getting good reviews out of TIFF, nice. I think the trailer may have played up the cheese factor a bit.
