I don't know if it's more Cavill's fault or how he has been written, but

he never comes across as someone who could have possibly masterminded anything or have some ideas about changing the world. He works better as the douchey henchman type.

I would have much preferred, if he wouldn't have turned out to be Lane's accomplice and his conflict with Hunt would have turned out to be something different like, in fact being sent to hunt him down during the second half.

Kind of would have prevented Walker to feel like a less brainy less charming version of what we already had in Lane.

Obviously it's hard to separate the writing and the performance, but I'm leaning towards performance.

His pornstashe and his reloading arms are going to be iconic for the fans of the series though, I expect. But those are about the only memorable things about him.£

He just shows up and that's it, he's James Bond? How easy.

Whatever McQ did or said immediately after Fallout doesn't matter in the long run because he obviously has a healthy working relationship with Cruise and Cruise is the missile that will get you back on his track if he wants to. But I see it differently, not only was the paycheck big enough, McQ probably saw it as a good enough challenge to expand his scriptwriting/directing skillset. How to top your own top? And the time table seems reasonable enough, for a change. No more hitting the ground running along the schedule, he has plenty of time to develop every single detail this time round. His creative impulses with these movies are satisfied for the time being, just as much as Cruise enjoys doing them, for years. 🕷

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious when he said that, just like Craig was back then.

Fallout and Rogue Nation are two of my all time favourite action films, but I have a feeling that these next ones, with the level of influence that McQuarrie has now achieved with the other two, could end up being the real deals.£
