“What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.”

BrightBurn is directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive) and written by Mark Gunn & Brian Gunn. Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) stars alongside David Denman (13 Hours, Power Rangers), Jackson A. Dunn (Shameless), Matt Jones (Mom, Home) and Meredith Hagner (Younger, Set it Up). James Gunn produces, with executive producers Mark Gunn, Brian Gunn, Dan Clifton, Simon Hatt, and Nic Crawley.

The H Collective fully financed the feature and produced alongside Gunn’s company, Troll Court Entertainment. Screen Gems will release the film wide theatrically in the U.S over Memorial Day Weekend, on May 24, 2019, as well as most international territories.

So has anyone else seen this "evil Superman" movie? I saw Brightburn yesterday and I got exactly what I was expecting... for better or worse, because the film doesn't do much more than what the trailer sold us on. It is a solid "slasher with Superman".

It does not build the mythology of this universe, it doesn't try to explain anything and it only slightly touches on the subject of puberty. But as a slasher it's really good and there are many terrifying moments, both those that build tension and those very that are grotesque, shocking and relying on efficient jump scares. And the concept itself is just great in its simplicity.

However, the film is a bit overlong - there is too much unnecessary build up at the beginning of the film to a very easily understood concept - Superman is evil. Ok, I understand, you got me, let's get to the point. And I do not understand why the cameraman does not use steadicam :P Don't get me wrong, the action is clear, and the gore is very graphic, but the camera moves just so slightly even during static conversation scenes and it was a bit annoying.

These two nitpicks downgrade the movie's score for me, but still I had fun and I can recommend it to people who like superheroes, especially DC ones (yes, there are more nods to DC in the film).

My overall rating is a strong 6/10 ... maybe 7.
