Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer have been set to lead the voice cast of Onward, the next film in the works at Pixar Animation Studios. Dan Scanlon (Monsters University) is directing the pic, which is set to hit theaters on March 6, 2020.

Disney said today the plot centers on two teenage elf brothers who embark on a quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Scanlon first tipped the film at Disney’s D23 convention last year under the working title Suburban Fantasy World.

“At Pixar we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” Scanlon said. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

At D23, Scanlon said the plot is inspired by the story of his childhood and how his father died when he was young and he always wanted to find out about him. This movie, he said at the time, is “a mix of the fantastic and the everyday,” with “elves, sprites and pretty much anything that would be on the side of a van in the ’70s.”

He is reuniting on the project with his Monsters University producer Kori Rae.

Quite disappointed by both trailers. But it's Pixar, and there's JLD, so who knows? I definitely have much higher expectations for Soul.

With Docter being in charge of Pixar, I expect a return to golden days, but this one indeed looks uninteresting and it doesn't help that it's directed by the fella who did Monster's University.

Docter's Soul is the one to wait for.

Hey this was pretty good. If Scanlon's next film is as much of an improvment as this was over Monsters University, then he might finally make a top tier Pixar film.

Had been a decade since Pixar has had three hits in a row (or even two for that matter). Go Docter.

This movie is very enjoyable. The rules around magic are clever and fun.
