thought there already was a threadBack in May of last year, word emerged that Jake Gyllenhaal and Benedict Cumberbatch were attached to star in a new, Steven Knight-penned thriller that at the time didn't have a name. Back then, Call Me By Your Name's Luca Guadagnino was considering directing, but as the update arrives, the job has gone to Edward Berger.
Knight's script is now known as Rio, and follows two old friends who reunite in the titular city, one a business titan and the other a journalist. The plot details beyond that are being kept quiet for now, beyond the fact that there is a strong role for a female lead alongside the main pair.
Berger is no stranger to working with Cumberbatch, having directed the actor in Patrick Melrose and has worked on other shows including The Terror and Deutschland 83. He's also got several films under his belt.
Cumberbatch and Gyllenhaal will also produce the film, with Studiocanal providing the backing.
Rio (TBD)
P sure they're gonna change the title.
