1917 (2019)
oh you people. this looks fantastic.
The same reason you're bothered by people's opinions on Sharon Tate in OUATIH.
I don't think it's the same. The issue with Interstellar was never the characters and they're arguably more fleshed out than in The Martian. I know some people were bothered by the high concepts of theoretical science in Interstellar and mistakenly compared it to the grounded realism of The Martian's science.
Here I could see someone preferring 1917 due to a more traditional story and a central protagonist.
I'm so annoyed by this, lol.
Midway irritates me too.
It's not the subject matter, it's the damn clock ticking soundtrack.

that shot of him crawling over the bodies was fucked up
I don't know if I would call this a copy of Dunkirk outright. It just seems to share imagery that a lot of war movies have.
The war movie is it's own distinct genre and like with all genres, imagery will repeat itself and so will themes.

The protagonist has a brother. A brother! Way more "human" and "relatable".
Haven't seen the film so really shouldn't be judging but the brother thing already feels like a cheap ploy to squeeze emotion out of audiences. Other than that, it looks good. Excited to see Deakins doing the long take thing.
