I think they are waiting to see how SW9 is received before saying anything official about RJ's trilogy. Their original idea was definitely not to release the first film in 2028. And it seems obvious they changed their strategy radically after Solo bombed.
I don't see D&D's film being directed by Johnson. There's be too much rivalry concerning creative control. The best thing to do for D&D is to hire someone who worked on TV series. I'm interested to see how creative control will be shared, for casting, production design...
But overall I'm optimist for this film.

There's a lot of buzz in the media that Rian Johnson's trilogy is pretty much dead. It wouldn't really surprise me but it also wouldn't surprise me if they came back to him after the whole Last Jedi controversy quiets down. Right now there's been a resurgence of Prequel fans and I think the same will happen for the Sequel Trilogy in about 10-15 years time.
There seems to be this "buzz" every month, in spite of Kathleen Kennedy mentioning that it was still on... last month.

Ben Affleck was constantly saying he's still Batman even though the media knew he wasn't months in advance. I'm NOT saying you should listen to the media and not official press releases but don't take every PR spin from the studio as gospel when there's no real evidence of a release date.

It's still pretty unclear just how big the anti-TLJ crowd is, and whether their boycott of Mr. Johnson's trilogy would actually happen, or if it would instead prove that they were a loud minority.

I want at least the first installment of his trilogy to be released so that we can settle that argument, if nothing else.

Would be great if he cast Larson in the lead. That would properly drive them insane.£

Then that means we'll get two Star Wars trilogies in the 2021-2027 time span... Of which one trilogy locked for the dates in-between Avatar films and Johnson's trilogy for the summer I guess. lol. so.much.star.wars

Anyway, fingers crossed B&Ws get Sapochnik for at least the first film. I think he can make the leap from TV to the big screen, unlike Alan Taylor.

FWIW, Benioff has written two films I would say are better than RJs pre-TLJ output so I choose optimism here. Director hire is obviously the key.

25th Hour and Brick are about equal.

No I'd put 25th Hour streets ahead of Brick, and i dug The Kite Runner.
