I'm one of those snobs whose list of 5/5 films would hardly exceed 15 titles if that, and I've seen tons.£

i tend to overrate things but to me a 5/5 embodies the summit of what a film could have accomplished within the parameters laid before it

for example, a 5/5 action movie won't mean the same thing as, say, a 5/5 existential drama studying spiritual turmoil, IE ratings are relative to themselves, not to eachother

I rate films out of 10 but I'm also very picky when it comes to giving a perfect score. So far, I've given it to about 25 films... ever. A 9/10 is probably what most consider a 5/5 star film and I haven't given a 9 to any movie this year as well. Last three years only three films got a 9 from me - Logan, La La Land and Inside Out. 2014 was unique in that department because not only did I give my last 10/10 (Interstellar) but I also gave four 9/10: Gone Girl, Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash and The Raid 2.

So far nothing came close to a 9/10 this year but there's been a few 8/10s and a lot of solid 7/10-type movies thus far.

I agree, for example: I'd give You Were Never Really Here a 5/5, Mission Impossible Fallout as well

Same. Obviously my 5/5 for Fallout is not the same as 5/5 for 2001. To get there, M:I series worked overtime and finally ‘earned it’ in my eyes, 2001 is just superb by itself and on a higher spiritual and cinematic level. Also, ratings are mostly just for fun, and order.🕷️

Most notably I'm still missing Venom and El Royale.
