um, whats your point? He still completely out acted him
Rolls of mentally handicapped people require much more characterization and transformation then that of a regular person cooping with life. DiCaprio obviously doesn't have downs, so if he wasn't completely transformed he wouldn't have been doing his job correctly. I'm not downplaying his work, he was incredible in the film, but Depp played his part perfectly as well. His character didn't require a transformation, whereas DiCaprio's did. And despite that he still successfully changed his voice, expressions, and posture for the film. Both were great, but of course DiCaprio had a more dramatic transformation, simply because of the character he was playing.

Lol. Almost every thread on this site eventually degenerates into a fanboy flamewar. :-D
Can't we just accept that they are both great actors in their own right?

they are...i like Leo's acting...he's able to be very emotional, and draw up the necessary emotion for the scene....but he always plays himself, and it feels like he aims for emotions, so it doesnt surprise the audience....depp doesnt really rely on emotions, he chooses characterization and spontaneity over that

so Dicaprio is more of an analytical, brainy actor...where as Depp is more instinctive and imaginative

both are good in their own way, but Dicaprio can't do what Depp does, and Depp probably would hate to do what Dicaprio does

neither of them are my favorite actor though, so these are just objective observations

The main difference between Dicaprio and Depp is that Dicaprio makes good movies and Depp doesn't.

There you go - case closed.
