Which is ridiculous, considering how this time round you get even more fan service. There's this whole layer that goes side by side with another Star Trek classic and I was astonished how well they pulled it off, it made sense, it was highly emotional and just the right thing to do.

If I wish to watch the aforementioned Star Trek classic, I can do so anytime I choose; I don't need to shell out $20 AU to see its most iconic scene re-enacted almost word for word. A better tribute to that scene would've been to come up with an original one that equals its power.d4mi4n wrote:

Well, I think your whole point is mistaken as I believe that Abrams doesnt give a sh** about satisfying fans, he said repeatedly that he was always more of a Star Wars fan and wanted to do his own version of ST.
He would've been able to satisfy this fan just by making a good movie.Jax_Teller wrote:Amelia wrote:

For those who want to see it at Lincoln Square IMAX, you're going to have to wait until May 31st

It's not a good thing? Oh, mkay. Here I was, thinking how good it was when J.J. scratched my balls.ArmandFancypants wrote:Fan service is not a good thing.d4mi4n wrote:

What would be nice is staying true to what Roddenberry's concepts are and what the spirit of Star Trek is, which is about a literal journey into the unknown that is a metaphorical journey into humanity.
And why are you two acting like this movie was NOTHING but fan service? I. Just. Don't. Get it.
And have you seen the last part? And was Wrath all about the literal journey into the unknown, or every other Star Trek movie out there? Thank you very much.
As for...
You brought up the film's fan service. I responded with what I thought of that particular aspect.d4mi4n wrote:And why are you two acting like this movie was NOTHING but fan service? I. Just. Don't. Get it.
Well that was a lot of fun to watch. Wasn't disappointing at all. A lot more light hearted than i thought it would be, the trailers made it look all grim and dark but it was for the most part a blast to watch. Fantastic action scenes. Overall the acting was good, in particular Cumberbatch who once again proves his talent. He was vicious, menacing, extremely fun to watch and memorable. I really wish i saw this in IMAX, my friend was being a cheap ass and insisted we go regular 2D, i'm sure watching it in IMAX would just be pure sex for the eyes and ears. The only real problem i had with it was during the Finale.
Anyway over all i thought it was great, best film I've seen this year so far ( the other films being only Evil Dead and iron man 3 which i both enjoyed) Definitely going to try and see this again, only this time IMAX
