I think when they made a Jason Bourne movie where Jason Bourne isn't in the film, or at most a cameo, I think the shark has already been long since jumped.

You don't need to have a character onscreen to have their presence felt. Look no further than A Letter to Three Wives.

You know they're based on books right...? Some of which don't feature Bourne.
