Scorsese and De Niro didn’t divulge much about “The Irishman,” the drama about organized crime and Jimmy Hoffa that also stars Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, a frequent collaborator of theirs. But the movie came up at a few points in the discussion (though neither addressed the fact that Netflix is releasing it). For instance, while talking about scores that borrow themes from other movies, the director mentioned that “The Irishman’s” mix includes borrowed elements.

De Niro recalled telling the director he had to read “I Heard You Paint Houses,” the 2004 book on which it’s based. And Scorsese told De Niro onstage, “You really felt the heart of this character and this situation.”

The director acknowledged that the material represented a return to the milieu of mobster tales like “Goodfellas” and “Casino” that the two are well known for, “but I think and I hope from a different vantage point. The years have gone by and you see things in a special way.”

In Scorsese’s view, the film is dealing with “the essence of who the people are, not necessarily the trappings around them.”
It's going to be incredible, and something special, can't wait.

I was just thinking this today. Between Tarantino, Scorsese, and Nolan next year, I almost forgot that real movies are still being made.

I'm also super excited for Villeneuve's Dune.

Martin: I love 35mm. Even this new one I'm doing, The Irishman, or the actual title should be I Heard You Paint Houses, we shot as much 35 as possible. However, there's a great deal of CGI because we're doing this youthification of De Niro, Pesci, and Al Pacino. They had to be CGI. They had to be a camera with three lenses. I was just crazy.

Why I'm concerned, we're all concerned is that we're so used to watching them as the older faces. When we put them all together, it cuts back and forth. The thing I talked about before in New York to you. Now, it's real. Now, I'm seeing it. Now, certain shots need more work on the eyes, need more work on why these exactly the same eyes from the plate shot, but the wrinkles and things have changed. Does it change the eyes at all? If that's the case, what was in the eyes that I liked? Was it intensity? Was it gravitas? Was it threat?

Irwin Winkler, Martin Scorsese's regular producer, recently said few details about The Irishman (should be titled I Heard You Paint Houses though), said that the cut could be around 3 hours long and that it's going to be a very special movie.
He also talked about the complicated and long de-aging process :
