Aren't 'Dark Tower' books not recommended for Stephen King newbie?

Don't be silly, Christopher Walken sheds his old skin every 40 years everyone knows that.

I read them last year shortly after reading my first Stephen King book (11/22/63) and would HIGHLY recommend them. After the first book the series becomes much easier to get through. I knocked them out quicker than I had a full book series in quite a long time.

Who else has read the books here? I know the movie isn't going to be a straight adaption but nonetheless I've been quite disappointed by the trailers. Like, really? This is why the film keeps getting pushed back? Looks to be a pretty generic action movie--not even the cast has me optimistic.
