Very poor choice of words. The most profitable would be the one that maximizes
Profit = Box office in $ - Costs
What Joker maximizes is ROI ( return on investment) = Box office in $ / Costs
Not meant to bore you, just to remind everyone journalists use the word that will make you click, not the right word.

It’s technically (BO - cost)/cost, but if BO >> cost, you can approximate it as BO / cost.

There's seems to be a lot of support for the film overall among other actors/writers/directors, just some mainstream critics were naysayers on the film. I'm thinking it has a good shot at getting a picture nomination.
