2018 is unstoppable. the sheer number of movies I'm super pumped for is honestly kind of intimidating:

Netflix's slate alone is insane: Roma, Hold the Dark, Apostle, 22 July, Outlaw King, The Other Side of the Wind.

But also like:

First Man
Suspiria
The Sisters Brothers
The Old Man and the Gun
A Star is Born
Burning
Shoplifters
Cold War
Bad Times at the El Royale
Mid90s
Wildfire
WIdows
The Favourite
If Beale Street Could Talk

not to mention the many fall circuit movies we probably haven't heard about yet

2018 is shaping up to be an incredibly impressive year for all types of movies

Yup. I have to take back my words that 2018 is boring for movies lol. A large variety of very different movies are coming out that I’m already into, and those are only off the top of my head as I haven’t always followed new releases closely this year. I’m kinda depressed at the idea of summer already ending, but at the sime time am super excited for new stuff coming out lol. Just October alone is amazing - Ryan Gosling landing on the Moon, Bad Times at the El Royale, A Star is Born, which is something I wouldn’t normally be into, but I liked the trailer and very curious to see Cooper direct, and possibly Suspiria too, which is prob not releasing where I am, but I’d like to pretend to not know that for a little while longer

So yeah. And then there’s the rest + tv shows

Might be a bit like 2007 where even the discarded movies are really good

That comparison comes to mind. '07 had stuff like, say, Breach, that are sturdily made and effective but nary a word spoken about them.

Of the 24 new movies I've seen in 2018, 19 are a 4/5 or better.

It's kinda amazing that Billy Ray couldn't convert two very solid thrillers, each of them getting a really robust-to-excellent performance out of an otherwise maligned "pretty boy", into a solid directorial career. Similarly it's surprising that Tony Gilroy's directorial career never really went anywhere. Michael Clayton demonstrates considerable promise.

2007 is the gift that keeps on giving, having just finally got around to Once. A few other years since have sort of flirted with that type of consistency but not often. Can't wait for the inevitable "3 screenings a day" period with all this gold floating about (although I guess a lot of it will just be via Netflix).

I guess Crimes of Depp and Climax but other than that honestly this year looks filled with boring indie flicks, Oscarbation, and trash like The Shape of Aquaman
