Opinion piece on Magnussen's characterisation+scripting (not mine, found on Twitter):
Fitting season finale. I was incredibly impressed with Lars Mikkelsen's Magnusson; probably even a better criminal mastermind than Moriarty for me.

Controversial opinion, here:
Fantastic episode. One of my favorites.
Horrendous ending.

As Moffat said: "You don't know what's going on there."
None of us do.
He probably isn't actually physically back. These episodes have followed the canon pretty well in some sense so I wouldn't think they'd make that enormous of a deviation.

I was waiting for real explanation about how Sherlock survived the fall. I still haven't bought the explanation given to Anderson by Sherlock. There was just a throwaway line about Sherlock's lookalike, but we don't get to see him. Don't you think a genius like Moriarty would hide him or his body where Sherlock couldn't find him?
We don't even get to see what was the plan to fake his death if Moriarty had not shot himself.
Edit:

Edit:
this is my favorite season now

something makes me think they won't take as long to get next season going so i didn't mind the ending
i could say i was pleasantly surprised actually, it was as fresh and as against-expectations as any other part of the season

My favorite season as well. Also in top three episodes, the scene between...
I wish we had gotten a bit more of Magnussen. Maybe they could've used him in the previous episodes and helped flesh out his character even more.
