“You blow them up today, they blow you up tomorrow.”

I loved his acting in this scene, especially his delivery of the word "Maybe".
tbh it was almost jarring how much he out acted everyone

I believe he’s talking about casino scenes primarily. But he was a veteran paired with couple of greenheads, not surprising and certainly not fair to compare them.

Reading the comments all over the net and why is seemingly nobody talking about, or upset about...
Yoda scenes?
Is the consensus on that, at least, that Rian nailed the tone? I though it was a seamless continuation of the character. One of my favorite scenes. I was transported back to 1997 and didn’t expect the sort of emotional impact that hit me.

That was one of my favorite parts of the film for sure. Rian absolutely nailed it there.

I think it was wonderful. People have complained though that it didn't make sense for
him to be so cheery and humorous when that was the facade that he put on as a test for Luke, but I think it worked.

The Yoda scenes were some of my favorites in the movie, they fit perfect. I get the cheesyness compared to him in other movies, but I definitely don't think it was overdone.

I'm ashamed to admit that on first viewing, his lines felt badly-written to me; everything he said felt 'off', like the script was a first draft or something.

But after letting the film sit and seeing it a second time...yeah, it's great.

Another thing that I initially felt mixed about:
the phantom lightsaber duel at the end.

Now it's my favorite lightsaber duel; so much raw emotion behind it.

But then again, I've only rewatched A New Hope, The Force Awakens, and Rogue One recently; memory of the lightsaber duels in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi is hazy (you will notice that I left out the prequels :P ).

So the sense I get online is people don't like that duel because
"it didn't really happen", which is funny because by that logic, then nothing having to do with the force actually happened.

Like if anything, it makes Luke the most powerful force user in the history of the canon.

I think the overall execution of that sequence is a bit weird tbh. I love what's actually happening in it but Johnson's handling of it is a little off.

It's SUPER CGI and the logic is pretty fuzzy, so it makes the whole thing feel pretty hokey in ways it's not.
