Just realized this dude was in three of the movies that got nominations this year. And he didn't play a psycho in TWO of them.

And I think he was Amanda Seyfried's boyfriend in Twin Peaks also (where he was a total fucking psycho)

Yeah she was.

There's a difference between sassy and comedic.

She was still comedic in that role. It wasn't a full out comedic role but she provided the laughter for sure. My point is it's not much different than The Help/TSOW. In Fruitvale Station she played a very different role so that should have been the example you used.
