He was excellent in Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird. Spotted him in Hostiles with Christian Bale too. Looking forward to seeing where his career goes after such a big year.
I hope Villeneuve casts him in Dune

so the question becomes... can Nolan hold off Del Toro

whoever wins here, i think, will go on to win the Oscar

EDIT: Coke beat me to it.. but anyways yeah, this is a very populist selection (not complaining)

Sorkin and Sheridan as well

i like the category. good for the people who made great first films that aren't quite prestigious enough to get into big leagues. Peele is the exception, of course, as much as i don't agree

Calling it now...

The big shocker of Oscar nominations: Nolan misses Best Director again.

Nominees will be Del Toro, McDonagh, Peele, Gerwig, and Guadagnino.
Or Villeneuve.

No Oscar without a little anxiety.

Nobody is taking Nolan out. Spielberg is done and Guadagnino aren't a threat.

Jordan Peele is the most vulnerable. I could see Baker take his spot.

Is it really a shocker though?
