Obviously not every weekend is going to be interesting, and especially not in September, but we still have couple of interesting tidbits from last week:
Gitesh Pandya ‏@GiteshPandya
Aside from directorial pics, #TheMagnificentSeven is sure to be #DenzelWashington's 13th $20M+ opening in a row over 12yrs w/ no sequels.
Gitesh Pandya ‏@GiteshPandya #SuicideSquad off just 18% this wknd. Intl breaks $400M. Global now $718.9M passing #CaptainAmerica #WinterSoldier. And w/ $0 from China.
Horror showdown:

Denzel, Suicide Squad and Don't Breathe are b.o. winners it seems.

I would be very surprised if Magnificent wouldn't flop. Even with Washington and Pratt it's highly unlikely the film reaches 250 million only to break even.£

20 mil. opening dom. is terrible but the point was Denzel never goes under so it's a mini personal win for him.

Good thing is production budget is 90 mil. - I'm predicting 35-39 mil. opening based on strong Thursday screenings.

Like I said - M7 is heading towards 36 mil. weekend, which is pretty alright for late September. It's a likeable cast and a modern take on a proven story. I'll download a rip a watch it with my father who loves the genre.

Today, #SuicideSquad will join the Top50 all-time domestic blockbusters list bumping off #IronMan in the process. $318.6M & counting.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children premieres this weekend, October is when finally things get (mildly) interesting.

Burton's latest peculiar film received a B+ CinemaScore and currently holds 64% on RottenTomatoes. Meanwhile Berg's Deepwater Horizon received A- and 82% Certified Fresh, should reach 70-75 mil. domestic.

Also, pretty interesting superhero numbers this year, since S.S. is almost ready to close the business (right before home cinema):

Image

International:
1) Civil War
2) BvS
3) Deadpool
4) Suicide Squad
5) X-Men: Apocalypse
Domestic:
1) Civil War
2) Deadpool
3) BvS
4) Suicide Squad
5) X-Men: Apocalypse
Seems like Civil War is a definitive winner and X-Men: Apocalypse definitive loser on the b.o. front. We'll see how Doctor Strange fares later this year.

Numbers for home video are finally out for BvS:UC and, this is only for the 1st week, it made 31+ mil. In comparison, TFA, which was obviously a behemoth in both cinema and home video, made north of 100 mil. after 17 weeks and BvS was No.1 for four consecutive weeks, that is only counting USA. It's safe to say that Warners will add another 100 mil. on top of 873 made internationally. Cuts of course don't work like that, especially on a 250 mil. budget (marketing included), but home video and merchandise is pure profit.

Gitesh reports that Sully is now officially Tom Hanks' 19th movie that managed to break 100 mil. domestic. This was his first:
