The Light Between Oceans: beautifully shot, good lead performances
It kind of went under the radar, and I think it deserved much better. Cianfrance is very underrated imo. Blue Valentine is one of the best film debut I've seen, The place beyond the pines had some flaws, but was still very interesting, and had a powerful ending.

The Man from Laramie: very entertaining
Have you seen other Mann/Stewart? I've also seen The far country, Bend of the river and The naked spur, and I thought The man from Laramie was the weakest of all four, though it was still a good film. The other three are great mix of the visual beauty of John Ford's and the entertainement of Howard Hawks'westerns. I still have to check Winchester '73.
Yeah well tbh the reason I didn't watch The Light Between the Oceans sooner was because someone I know saw it and said it was dreadfully boring. I honestly don't know why I listened because after having seen it I didn't thought it was boring lol
Anyway, I really loved The Place Beyond the Pines, I haven't seen Blue Valentine yet

I'm a bit ashamed to say that The Man from Laramie is the only film I've seen of Anthony Mann... I've been stalling watching El Cid for reasons I don't even know lol I've seen quite some of Stewart's work though

Watched Creed II earlier today, and honestly I might like it even more than the first one.

I liked it way more than the first one. The biggest difference for me was that this time you had conflict on both sides. Sure, Rocky's character was a little wasted this time but the Drago family storyline was equally engaging as Adonis's if not more. Plus it made Rocky IV retroactively a better movie (and I already liked the cheese of it).

Plus, I really preferred the score and cinematography in this one (sure, the first one had this great long shot but this one is way more consistent).

The Perfection is de palma delirium and 100% my shit, go in blind and you'll have a ball

Booksmart is very funny and totally sincere and one of the best this year so far. It's less "Superbad but girls" and more Lady Bird with a lot of vagina jokes. Wilde's a terrific director, and Dever kills it.

film is good

revolutionary road is great because it has full scenes of characters having specific feelings about each other and the way they'd like to relate to one another but express themselves through superficial conversations where neither person actually says what they feel i.e. real human dialogue i.e. mindfucking

I've realized it's basically emotional porn

and it does that one thing very well

I need to rewatch Revolutionary Road but in the book I vividly remember this one passage that still haunts me.
the dude that Kate Winslet’s character cheats on Leo’s character with has this flashback scene where he lives in a tract house and his life is monotonous and boring. He gets so fed up with it that he loses it at his wife while she is holding their young child. That has stuck with me for years because i’m So scared of that type of life. And adding onto Keith’s point, this is probably the only moment in the book where a character says what they mean and do not dress it up.

Who else plans on seeing Booksmart? It is such a funny, well written, well directed, and well acted film. Please go see it because if it gets any sort of success at the box office we’ll get more amazing little films like this. And Olivia Wilde is such a great director and I hope she has a lot of success in that.
