I've seen it twice already. It was great on first viewing, but it improves immensely on rewatch.

It's pretty darn good, with some wonderful character development and strong modulation, but it is just a little bit sub-Coen. And the filmmaking itself isn't overly interesting while being an improvement on his other two films. The "Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" sequence is superb.

Maybe it's the McDormand factor or the Burwell jingle that causes the film give off that Coen-scent... Okay, maybe it's fair to open that comparison. But the script is consistent with the principles that McDonaugh touched upon in his previous movies, namely the principle in taking an eye for an eye. Where the Coens often tell us to tolerate the injustice of this world, McDonaugh demands us to fight against its unjustly nature. Also, he wrote a part for Caleb Landry Jones where he finally didn't have to be a mouth-breathing creep.

This was pretty damn good. Wonderful balance between humor and drama. McDormand is a gem, she absolutely aced this. Give her the Oscar please.

This might be my favorite original screenplay of the year. McDormand and Rockwell are fantastic as well. Harrelson is great too.
