Christian Bale In Talks To Board Scott Cooper’s ‘Hostiles’
Christian Bale is in talks to board Scott Cooper’s next project, Hostiles. John Lesher will produce the Black Mass director’s new feature with Ken Kao financing. The film would reunite the director with his Out of the Furnace leading man. That 2013 drama also starred Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson.

This would mark Bale’s next project. The mercurial actor, Academy Award-nominated for yet another brilliant turn in Adam McKay’s financial meltdown dramedy The Big Short, had been set to play Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s long-cherished biopic of the iconic carmaker. Instead, on doctor’s advice, he left after health concerns over the weight gain necessary for the role.

Bale has a brace of Terrence Malick projects in the pipeline: Knight of Cups, where he plays a Hollywood-based filmmaker who has lost his way amidst a sea of beautiful visuals and non-linear narration, andWeightless, about two intersecting love triangles set against the music scene in Austin. Ken Kao co-financed both those films as well. Bale has also voiced the role of Bagheera in Andy Serkis’ Jungle Book: Origins for Warner Bros and stars with Oscar Isaac in Terry George’s The Promise. That project is also a love triangle, set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire.

Nice. I was wondering when this would happen. I'm exited to see Bale in another western.

Also, it's called Hostiles, actually.

Pretty excited about this.

Sounds kind of Revenanty, so does the Affleck/Phoenix film. I wonder if that's just a coincidence.

I'm excited about this. I really liked Out of the Furnace and I think Cooper is a decent director. It's a good move on Bale's part.

However, I had hopes, that after leaving Enzo Ferrari, Bale would join Nolan's Dunkirk. Sadly, I guess that's not going to happen.

Rosamund Pike To Star With Christian Bale In Scott Cooper-Helmed ‘Hostiles’
Rosamund Pike will star alongside Christian Bale in the Scott Cooper-directed epic Hostiles. Cooper, who’s coming off Black Mass and the Bale-starrer Out Of The Furnace, is writing and directing this one. It is based on a nearly 30-year-old screenplay by Oscar-winner Missing scribe Donald Stewart. Cooper will produce together with John Lesher and Ken Kao, who is financing through his company Waypoint Entertainment. Production will begin in July.

Set in 1892, Hostiles is the story of a legendary Army captain who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Pike plays a widow who undertakes the harrowing and perilous journey after the murder of her family on the plains. “It’s a journey of acceptance through the heart of darkness,” Cooper said.

Jesse Plemons Joins Christian Bale in Scott Cooper’s ‘Hostiles’
“Fargo” star Jesse Plemons has joined Christian Bale in Scott Cooper’s next film, “Hostiles.”

Rosamund Pike is also on board to co-star in the movie, which begins production in July.

Cooper will write and direct the film, in addition to producing with “Black Mass” producer John Lesher, along with Ken Kao, who is also financing the pic through Waypoint Entertainment.

Set in 1892, Hostiles is the story of a legendary Army captain who agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. He encounters a young widow whose family was killed while making the harrowing and perilous journey from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana. They must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape and hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way.

Plemons has been cast as a younger member of Bale’s cavalry unit who is tasked with helping the group reach its destination.

Ben Foster and Christian Bale reunite in a western setting? That's even better. This cast sounds amazing!

It's apparently a classic Western that's quite good, with a great performance from Bale.

Director of the Venice film festival really wanted it but couldn't get it. He praised it very highly.

Also, it's going to both TIFF and Telluride where a tribute will be held in honour of Bale.
