I mean, if it maintains the same kind of "forces of nature" theme from 'Zilla '14, then I'll be content.

But much like that film, I'm concerned virtually everything else will be lame.

Godzilla is still one of the best blockbusters this decade. A masterful building of suspense to the earned and satisfying ejaculation in the climax. The filmmaking on display trumps almost all recent blockbusters outside of Nolan and George Miller.

I could care less what they do with the rest of this shared universe because Godzilla is clearly a standalone piece at this point.

Yeah, I mean, Godzilla literally grabbing the Muto by the jaws and vomiting his lazer breath through it's fucking head is probably one of my favorite pay offs in recent blockbuster memory.

Hell, if this has something like that, I'm down.

Godzilla was a good blockbuster. I remember that he was revealed in his full glory for the first time, with the camera going upwards, and then that scream... Holy shit. If Kong is anything like that, sign me on.

Without spoiling it, I didn't find the finisher quite as satisfying in here.

Oh I had so, so much fun with this. Absolutely glorious - I wish I got to see it in IMAX, alas they're only doing afternoon shows for now. It's a visually gorgeous (Larry Fong is the real MVP) B-movie, and here's the thing, the story is simple , the characters may be thinly sketched but thanks to the performances it's fairly easy to root for/against certain characters. Oh, and the action delivers - and that's what you're here for, just so much fun to watch. And I need more MONARCH, I love how they're making it the SHIELD of this universe and it's just too awesome (the post credits scene had me grinning like an idiot). Bring on Godzilla 2 and GvK.
