that 7.5 doesn't correspond with your review. Or you need to re-evaluate your ratings. A bit too high.

I just posted that it could/should probably be a 6.5.

And 7.5 on my scale corresponds to a C on the letter scale. Which basically means average in my book.

Yikes. A couple of drafts down the road by a writer with ability, and this mighta been something. As it stands, I don't think it was a terrible work of directing, but the whole movie is pretty much void of anything interesting. It's stale and rigid, and I cared so little for the character that I almost drifted off during the third act.

Throwing the ending at us in the prologue didn't help.

The first draft of the script by Paglan, in my opinion, was close to solid. But, Pfister jumping as the director later the script changed. I had a bad feeling about this anyway and just wondered. Just wondered seeing Depp as the STAR of this film. I haven't seen it, so no judging Wally's work.

Yup. I actually enjoy parts of Happening more, and I think that film is a massive embarrassment.

I thought it looked really good in the trailer, shame it's getting mediocre reviews.

I haven't seen it, but the news is not good, the reviews are not good, and the only good news is that it looks like Wally will be available to DP Nolan's next picture. Not sure he'll get another shot anytime soon at directing. From what I'm hearing, the script didn't do Wally any favors. I do hate it for him, but I'm beyond excited for him to get back to what he does best, and right now that appears to be imminent.

^ I imagine there's more factors at play than just Transcendence flopping for that to happen.

1. Nolan and Hoytema may have gotten on like a house on fire personally/professionally and nailed Interstellar (god willing).
2. In the magazine article, when Wally described the conversation with Nolan that he was going to direct, it came across as very tense and he said "I knew once I told him I was looking to direct, there would be no going back. Not with Chris."
3. Wally has always said that his days as a DP are over, and as recently as two days ago on reddit (When his movie had already taken a lashing by critics), he was asked again and said "I intend to focus on directing".

Yeah, who knows. But I think the decision for Wally to keep directing won't be up to him... and this will be a pretty big setback.

I'm not sure I buy that tense talk though. Nolan backed him by being producer of this film. That doesn't strike me as someone who was upset.

I think the issue of going back isn't one of being 'blackballed' as much as Chris is going to strike up a relationship and isn't going to interrupt that as long as it's going well. Somebody is going to have to screw up for Pfister to get back in. I don't see Nolan being prideful if he needed to go get another new DP.
